Schedule a Free ConsultationAnxiety isn't a character flaw or a sign of weakness. It's your nervous system stuck in overdrive, responding to everyday situations as if they were emergencies. And when it's untreated, it doesn't just stay in your head. It shows up in your relationships, your work, your sleep, and your body.
I've worked with a lot of people who spent years managing their anxiety rather than treating it, white-knuckling through hard moments, staying busy to avoid the discomfort, or using substances or other behaviors to take the edge off. That works, until it doesn't.
Anxiety therapy isn't about eliminating stress from your life. It's about changing your relationship to it, so it stops running the show. With the right approach, most people see real, lasting improvement.

Anxiety looks different in different people. Here are some of the most common ways it shows up.
My approach to anxiety therapy is practical and direct. I don't believe in spending months talking about your anxiety without doing anything about it. We identify the patterns that are driving it, understand where they come from, and build real skills to interrupt them.
I see clients in person at my office in Caldwell, NJ — just off Bloomfield Avenue — and via telehealth throughout Essex County and all of New Jersey, including West Caldwell, Verona, Montclair, Livingston, and Roseland. I work with adults of all genders.
"Anxiety is treatable. I've seen people go from completely stuck to genuinely free, not free from difficulty, but free from the constant dread. That's what we're working toward."— Chris Tomkins, LPC · Caldwell, NJ
I draw on several evidence-based modalities depending on what's most useful for you. Therapy isn't one-size-fits-all, my job is to figure out what works for the specific way anxiety shows up in your life.

If anxiety is affecting your relationships, your work, your sleep, or your sense of self, it's worth exploring. You don't have to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. A free consultation is a low-stakes way to find out whether it makes sense for you.
Stress is usually tied to a specific situation, once the situation resolves, the stress eases. Anxiety tends to persist and generalize. It doesn't turn off when the trigger goes away, and it often attaches to new things over time. If you feel like you're always waiting for the next thing to go wrong, that's usually anxiety, not just a stressful season.
Most people notice meaningful improvement within 8–12 sessions, especially with CBT. Some situations benefit from longer-term work, particularly when anxiety is deeply tied to relationship patterns or past experiences. I'll give you a realistic sense of what to expect during our consultation.
Yes. Anxiety doesn't always look like nervousness. For many people it shows up as irritability, anger, withdrawal, overworking, or substance use. These presentations are often undertreated because they don't fit the typical picture, but they respond just as well to the right approach. I recognize them, and I know how to work with them.
Yes. All services are available via secure telehealth to anyone in New Jersey. If you're in Essex County but can't get to my Caldwell office, or if you just prefer the convenience of remote sessions, that works just as well for most anxiety treatment.
Early sessions focus on understanding your specific anxiety — the triggers, the patterns, the history. From there we move into active work: building skills, challenging the thoughts and behaviors that maintain anxiety, and practicing new responses. Sessions are 45 or 60 minutes. We'll figure out what format makes the most sense for you.
I'm an out-of-network provider, so I don't bill insurance directly. After each session I provide a superbill you can submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement. Many clients receive partial reimbursement through their out-of-network benefits. HSA and FSA accounts are also accepted. Individual sessions are $225 (45 min).
